some of my thoughts
I write a little. Some of this is old and some of it new. I think my thinking has evolved over time.
A wellbeing rule of thumb
I am developing a fast thinking, rough guide for making decisions about new things, like a new place to eat, a new way to exercise, a new thing to learn, and new place to work.
It goes something like this: if the people who are already doing that thing look well, look happy, and are generally the type of people I want to be more like, then that new thing is likely to have a good impact on me. If, on the other had, the people already doing that thing look unwell, unhappy, and are not the type of people I want to be more like, then it is probably something for me to stay away from.
This is also useful for things that I am doing habitually and in assessing their impact on me.
Do the people at my supermarket look well? Happy?
Do the people at my gym look like they are in the type of shape I want to be in?
Are the parents at the school my kids go to have the character I would like my kids to develop?
As I wrote, its a work in progress, but it seems to have some use. There may be some benefit in these activities even if the rule of thumb says that it is probably not for me. However I will need to be more conscious of allowing the helpful in, and keeping the unhelpful out.
